2024 Ford F150: Next-Gen Ford F-150 Exclusive Review

Posted on

2024 Ford F150 When you think of a “pickup truck” what probably comes to mind is the Ford F-150. The timeless bestseller has evolved into the modern era with an aluminum body, a turbocharged powertrain, hybrid options, an all-electric spinoff—reviewed separately—and all of Ford’s best technologies.

If you want a work truck, the entry-level XL has everything you need and nothing you need but climb the trim ladder and you’ll find a long list of desirable features—and a price tag to match, of course.

For those looking to venture into the great outdoors, there’s the dashing Tremor model, while the upscale Platinum and Limited trims pamper occupants with Lincoln-level luxury.

The F-150 doesn’t ride as well as the Ram 1500 or grips as sharply as the Chevy Silverado, but it’s very capable, multi-configurable, and very competitive.

In other words, it was successful enough to generate the kind of loyalty that kept it at the top of the sales charts year after year.

2024 Ford F150 Review

Significant modifications are coming soon for the 2024 Ford F-150. This time we were expecting a new look and updated technology. However, what happened to the Ford F-150 Hybrid?

You can buy a 2023 Ford F-150 and settle for your new truck, but updates are coming soon. The 2024 Ford F-150 will debut with a mid-cycle update. Is it worth the wait? This could take several additional months.

The 2024 Ford F-150 will be undergoing a mid-cycle refresh, but official details have yet to be revealed. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see the new look and technology improvements. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long.

Ford announced that the 2024 F-150 will make its debut at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, which runs from September 13 to September 24, 2023. The NAIAS is also known as the North American International Auto Show, so the new F-150 won’t be the only thrilling vehicle showing. exhibited.

We can confirm that the F-150 has a slightly updated look. Instead of being a single element, the C-shaped wraparound headlight has been divided into sections. In addition, the front bumper and hood were redesigned for a more assertive look.

The taillights have been updated, as has the rear fascia. In addition, the graphics of the Ford F-150 Raptor are also new. This implies that other charts in the Rattler suite and FX4 will likely be updated as well.

2024 Ford F150 Report

A redesigned Ford F-150 model is currently in development. We’ve seen plenty of surveillance photos illustrating the upcoming changes to the top-selling truck, and now we know when these changes will be made official. Ford CEO Jim Farley has verified that the 2024 F-150 will make its debut at the 2023 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, starting in early September.

The announcement was made by Ford on Thursday during a conference call on the company’s earnings for the second quarter. Farley didn’t provide specifics on what to expect, but he implied the changes would be more than superficial.

“We plan to unveil the all-new F-150 and F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid in September at the Detroit auto show,” he said during a conference call.

This is an unusual choice of words for a relatively new pickup truck. The current-generation F-150 makes its 2020 debut for the 2021 model year with a conservative exterior design, a completely redesigned interior, and a new hybrid option. As a result, a complete redesign for 2024 seems unlikely, especially considering Farley also stated that sales of the F-150 are outpacing the pickup truck market as a whole at nearly three times as fast.

And then there’s the spy photo of the F-150, which captures several trim levels of the redesigned truck moving around Detroit without a trace of camouflage. Depending on trim level, these appearances reveal minor facelifts to the truck’s lower fascia, headlights, and grille.

In this case, the term “all-new” may be marketing jargon for what is almost unquestionably a mid-cycle refresh. However, it is important to note that so far our street spy has only photographed the outside of the target. This opened the door for revisions to the truck’s interior, which some might argue has become a little dated in the years since its introduction. Chevrolet has updated the Silverado’s windshield, and a revised Ram is reportedly in the works. At the very least, the F-150 may require a larger central interface. This may require at least a slight modification of the dashboard design.

Additionally, Farley mentions a new hybrid. This could indicate powertrain tweaks in the F-150 lineup, or at the very least, modifications to the current hybrid’s output. Similar to the interior, we haven’t come across these details yet.

At least we now know when we will receive answers to our questions. On September 13, 2023, the North American International Auto Show opens to the public. A formal introduction will most likely come before then.

2024 F150 Refresh

Last September, Ford Authority (FA) reported that the Ford F-150 was expected to receive a mid-cycle update in 2023 for the 2024 model year, which falls right within the typical timeline for the best-selling pickup to continue after being treated with redesigns. for the 2021 model year

This will provide six years of regular product cadence – three for the pre-refresh model and three for post-refresh pickup, as was the case with the previous generation. Then, in early December, FA spotted the 2024 Ford F-150 being tested for the first time, and just weeks later, a trimmed model Lariat was also spotted driving around, clad in heavy camo.

Now, FA has seen another 2024 Ford F-150 prototype, this time with new tail lights on display.

While still partially obscured, this is our best look at the taillight design on the updated F-150, which differs from the unit present on the current-generation model, featuring a red section that is shaped like an “E” and intersects with a clear area on the back, in between.

Here we can see a more stylized design with the red sections starting to widen at the bottom, then curving towards the front of the truck near the top.

As for the back door, it’s still entirely covered in camouflage – so it’s hard to see any changes that might have taken place there. However, as FA reported last month, the 2024 Ford F-150 could debut with the new multi-function tailgate the automaker has been working on for several years now, which should help it better compete with Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Ram. 1500, all of which featured a multifunctional tailgate. Underneath, we can see a set of exhaust tips known as PEMS (portable emission measurement system).

Up front, this particular F-150 prototype also has an exposed grille and headlights, which reveal essentially the same design as the current model, with the black-coated grille visible from the base XL trim.

As well as revised front and rear fascias, the 2024 Ford F-150 will likely also get some interior updates – the kind of changes we’ve come to expect from a mid-cycle refresh of The Blue Oval, especially in terms of the pickup. That could include the addition of a new infotainment system powered by Google, which hasn’t debuted yet but is expected to arrive sometime soon.

As FA previously reported, a potential successor to the Sync 4 was expected to launch in the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, but that ultimately didn’t happen.

The Ford F-150 is a new variation of America’s most popular truck and is meant to shake up the trucking world. The Ford F-150 was redesigned for the 2021 model year, and Ford now offers many versions, including work trucks, luxury models, off-road trim, and more.

Based on the XL FX4, Rattler adds unique 18-inch wheels, a dual exhaust system, hill descent control, a locking rear differential, and an off-road suspension system along with a signature rattle-inspired logo throughout the design.

The Rattler’s placement in the F-150 lineup provides a more affordable option for buyers who want additional off-road capability but don’t want to shell out for the more expensive Tremor or Raptor models.

2024 F150 Hybrid

Indications suggest that the 2024 Ford F-150 Hybrid could receive a significant upgrade, as Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that hybrid vehicles will continue to be driven over electrification.

Even though Ford is currently losing money on electric vehicles, 10% of the F-150 models and 56% of the Maverick trucks are hybrid variants.

Jim Farley stated that Ford anticipates demand for internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid powertrains will be extended and stronger than anticipated. Ford will profit during the transition from ICE to EV.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid can get some extra horsepower, but it’s not necessary. It combines a 3.5-liter V6 engine, electric motor, and battery cells to produce 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in around 5.7 seconds.

We believe that the battery is improved because it has some drawbacks and must be replaced frequently. Therefore, the F-150 Hybrid is the least reliable vehicle.

The EPA estimates it achieves 25 mpg both in the city and on the highway. During our tests, we found these estimates to be accurate.

In our imagination, the Ford F-150 PHEV will have even greater fuel economy. But Ford was sloppy with the hints, so a teaser has likely been released by now. Additionally, an updated 2024 F-150 pickup truck has been observed in Michigan.

2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R

In addition to uncovering the hot Raptor R, our espionage team just caught a standard Raptor on the road with no camouflage, as shown in the new photo gallery below. The changes mirror the Raptor R, except for R-specific features like red tow hooks and flashy designs. The lack of camouflage on this vehicle indicates an imminent debut.

Technically, these images are surveillance photos. This can help the Ford F-150 Raptor R merge with other vehicles on the road, as it is not immediately visible. Not that the Raptor R with its huge R graphics could be put together, but the casual observer might not realize that this is a 2024 model with updated styling. However, we are not just spectators.

This Raptor R was spotted on the streets of Dearborn, near Ford’s global headquarters, by our spy photographer, who determined it was different from what is currently available for purchase. We anticipate a refresh of the F-150 in 2024, including the high-performance Raptor and Raptor R models. We’ve seen test vehicles with minimal camouflage, but this is the first time we’ve seen a truck without camouflage. Also, Ford has not attempted to hide the fact that this vehicle is the Raptor R.

So, what exactly is the difference? In this case, a revision is appropriate since most of the exterior modifications are located at the front of the truck. There’s a new grille with a bolder grille pattern behind the large Ford lettering, which appears slightly larger and protrudes slightly further. The corner headlights are the same but have new internal components. Below, the bumper is narrower at the extremities, and the mesh motif is replaced by vertical slats.

The only change at the rear is the addition of new taillights. As well as the headlights, the structure and taillight elements are new for 2024. Also new for 2024 is the prominent Raptor R logo on the bed.

Not everything in this pickup vehicle is exposed. Our espionage source tells us that part of the dashboard is still hidden by camouflage. This time, there’s no clear view through the side mirrors, but previous surveillance photos of the F-150 suggest that a larger touchscreen with portrait orientation will be installed on the center console, along with other minor trim changes.

As for power, there’s no reason to assume that Ford will tweak the already potent 5.2-liter supercharged V8 under the hood. Unless Ford wants to unseat the Ram TRX as the toughest and toughest off-road vehicle yet. It only required simple modifications, as the Raptor R has 700 horsepower compared to the TRX’s 702 horsepower.

New Ford F150 Engine

available with several engines — a 290-hp 3.3-liter V-6; a 400-hp 5.0-liter V-8; 325-hp twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine; 400-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6; and a 250-hp 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine.

Whichever engine you choose, the F-150 is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. For the first time, the F-150 is also offered with a hybrid powertrain.

Ford claims that the new 400-hp hybrid powertrain — consisting of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, 35 kW electric motor, and 10-speed automatic transmission — will offer a driving range of up to 700 miles per tank.

And can also power the onboard generator to keep power flowing at the job site or during a power outage. Buyers will be able to choose between rear and four-wheel drive with one of the available F-150 powertrains.

On our test track, During our test drive, we noted a suitable ride and pleasant handling; high-spec models like the King Ranch come with a variable-assist steering system that sharpens response at low speeds for a more agile feel.

The Tremor model promises the most off-road capability; it offers 33-inch all-terrain tires, upgraded suspension, a locking rear differential, and a four-wheel drive transfer box borrowed from the mighty F-150 Raptor.

On our test track, the Tremor surged to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds, trailing the more powerful Raptor by just 0.1 seconds.

Ford F150 Payload and Dimension

While the towing capacity of the base 3.3-liter V-6 engine maxes out at 8200 pounds, models equipped with the 400-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 can tow up to 14,000 pounds.

Going with the respectable 5.0-liter V-8 means a maximum towing capacity of just 13,000 pounds; the diesel V-6 is capable of up to 12,100 pounds and the hybrid model can tow up to 12,700. Payload capacities range from 1840 to 3250 pounds.

This towing and payload capacity allowed the new F-150 to continue to compete with major rivals such as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Ram 1500.

2024 F-150 Interior

The interior designations on the F-150 almost match the luxury cabin of the Ram 1500, especially on the high-end King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited Ford models. Premium materials are used throughout the cabin and plenty of storage space.

Additional convenience features are meant to make it easier for those who use the F-150 as a mobile workspace. For example, the 10-speed automatic shift lever folds flat against the center console to create a large flat workspace.

Similarly, the F-150 can be ordered with flat-folding front seats that can provide a place to sleep. The passenger compartment is very spacious, with the four-door crew cabin body style being the most spacious and family-friendly.

At the rear, bed F-150 An optional onboard generator provides up to 7.2 kW of power to support power requirements at the job site or tailgate parties.

Ford provides an 8.0-inch infotainment screen as standard running an improved version of the brand’s Sync 4 software, while a much larger 12.0-inch unit is optional.

It matches the Ram 1500’s optional 12.0-inch vertical-oriented display, but the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are available with the larger 13.4-inch display.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as are Wi-Fi hotspots; navigation, SiriusXM radio, and Bang & Olufsen stereo system are optional.

The new Sync 4 software provides over-the-air updates for future software releases, traffic and weather updates via an optional navigation system, and onboard telematics for fleet customers to help track vehicle location and usage.

Ford F150 2024 MPG

The EPA estimates the F-150 with its turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 will deliver up to 20 mpg per city and on 26 highways. The twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 is rated for up to 18 mpg city and 24 highways.

The hybrid version has an estimated 25 mpg city and 26 highways. On our 75 mph highway fuel-efficient route, which was part of our extensive testing regimen, the 3.5-liter twin-turbo Tremor model delivered 19 mpg.

Once we get the F-150 hybrid running, we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information on the F-150’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
