2025 Ford Maverick: New Compact Truck Review, Specs and Prices

Posted on

2025 Ford Maverick delivers an easy ride, a hybrid powertrain, and great capability, making it a great small pickup truck. The price starts at $27,890, which we will discuss in detail and, of course, with a pleasant feeling.

Certainly, anything that qualifies for our Best Buy Award three years in a row is worthy of respect. The Hyundai Santa Cruz stands out despite its competition, which consists of just one other car.

Ford has a lot of experience building trucks, and this shows in the Maverick, albeit on a smaller scale than usual. It’s comfortable, strong enough, has off-road skills, and has lots of little touches that truck owners value.

2025 Ford Maverick Review

There is no doubt that Ford specializes in pickup trucks with its smallest model, the 2025 Ford Maverick combining the best features of the mid-size Ranger and the maximum-size F-150. Our ranking of the 10 Best Trucks for 2025 earned the small package at the top because it’s so versatile and useful.

The 2025 Ford Maverick comes standard with a fast-accelerating turbocharged four-cylinder; hybrid arrangements are offered and attract the attention of those trying to save money. These two powertrains vary slightly in towing capability and cargo capacity, making the choice simpler.

2025 Ford Maverick

With the power plant and optional Towing package, the 2025 Ford Maverick has both all-wheel drive systems capable of towing up to 4000 pounds. While the Maverick’s small cargo bed can’t load bulky items as effectively as its bigger brothers, it does have enough room for a yard of mulch, a few bikes, or a truckload of moving boxes—that is, truckloads of stuff.

Four adults can live inside the 2025 Ford Maverick as long as you avoid the bargain price of the lowest XL trim and enough amenities to keep everyone happy, even if second-row legroom is tight. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the only small pickup truck alternative available; it has a more luxurious cabin but is more expensive and lacks a hybrid drivetrain.

2025 Ford Maverick Specs

Now, the 2025 Ford Maverick comes with an optional hybrid powertrain is all-wheel drive, which can tow up to 4,000 pounds (twice as much as last year). Originally a bundle, the Lobo variation joins a different Tremor trim topping the lineup.

The grille design is fresh, and each trim varies based on the basic styling motif. Engines that use only gasoline produce less output. Technology-wise, remote software upgrades, wireless phone connectivity, and a larger infotainment touchscreen all come standard across the board.

One new 360-degree camera system features a split-screen view. Models, including the Lariat and Tremor, also get predictive speed assist, lane centring, and stop/go adaptive cruise control.

Key Features:

  • Today’s hybrids provide all-wheel drive.
  • The hybrid also gets better towing capacity.
  • Lobo anTremoror versions
  • improved technology
  • Reduces base engine output
  • minor styling changes
  • Competent and reasonably priced
  • Drivetrain options
  • Multiple-time recipient of our Best Buy Award

2025 Ford Maverick Interior

2025 Ford Maverick

The two-row seating style makes this small pickup flexible and compact. The rear seat cushions open to reveal storage space below, and the doors can accommodate large water bottles. Except that the hybrid version commands one of these spaces for its battery.

The 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid also boasts a one-inch reduction in rear legroom, 35.9 inches, compared to the combustion-only model. Tall people will prefer to sit in front of the house.

Replace last year’s standard 8-inch with the 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen that now comes on every new Maverick and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto phone integration goes wireless. In addition to the all-weather mattress, the Tremor Off-Road kit features an Orange seat stitched with Blue/chalk stitching for the sneaker’s new Lobo design.

Even those who look at the extra-extra-large category when shopping for clothes find the front seats very comfortable. Despite a few complaints on radio quality, our owner review gives the Maverick’s cabin a thumbs-up.

BTheXL’s foundation is very simple. This is acceptable for work vehicles; however, consumers hoping to spend quality time with their new Maverick should opt for the Lariat.

One Cab, One Bed

Ford authorities call it Super Crew, but considering its four doors, the 2025 Maverick small pickup features what most of us would consider a crew cab. The 4.5-foot bed completes this. In this case, there is no possibility whatsoever.

The 2025 Ford Maverick has a one-piece, or unibody, structure, so the bed is not separate but rather part of the entire vehicle. Locking tie rails and spray lining are additions to this cargo area.

With a lift height of just 30.1 inches, we found loading and unloading the Maverick’s bed simpler than its larger Ford truck cousins. The bed is also short enough at the sides so someone can get into it without lowering the back door.

Short-framed drivers of the 2025 Ford Maverick will especially appreciate this easy-to-access bed.

Slight cosmetic changes this year result in a new grille that looks cleaner than before and is devoid of the horizontal bars that bear the Ford emblem. This year’s new Black Package has exterior components (like the 19-inch alloy wheels) finished in, you guessed it, black.

There is also an optional 2025 Ford Maverick Black Appearance and Tremor Off-Road/Appearance package eligible for the XLT and Lariat variants. With all-wheel drive, the base Maverick offers a useful ground clearance of 8.6 inches (slightly less with front-wheel drive).

However, the Tremor’s larger ride height offers 9.4 inches of ground clearance. Although the Tremor Appearance package puts the roof, hood, lower doors, and mirror housings in Carbonized Grey, the grille and fenders look more attractive with orange accents.

2025 Ford Maverick Engine

The default setting is a combustion-only drivetrain. The 2025 Ford Maverick is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine consists of a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 238 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque (12 less horsepower and a few pound-feet difference from last year). Front-wheel drive is the standard; all-wheel drive is an option.

The 2025 Ford Maverick now features an electric motor combined with a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine. An optional hybrid drivetrain produces 191 horsepower. Ford only provides total torque statistics; the engine produces 155 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm, and the electric motor produces 173 lb-ft.

While we’d never expect this drivetrain to lack thrust, it’s not as easy as adding those two numbers together. Through a constantly variable automatic transmission, output is sent to the front wheels or all four.

Standard all-wheel drive and a gasoline engine linked to a 7-speed automatic transmission define the new-for-2025 Maverick Lobo.

2025 Ford Maverick Performance

Most Maverick models with 238 horsepower are down 12 horsepower compared to the previous year. This is between the two engines available in the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Despite running just six seconds from a standstill to 60 mph, acceleration times are comparable to Hyundai’s larger units.

The 2025 Ford Maverick, with its 191 horsepower optional hybrid drivetrain, has enough power to reach freeway speeds without worry. It takes a few seconds off the 60 mph sprint, but acceleration is still pretty good. We’ve noticed that the petrol engine sounds great whenever needed. Both drivetrains provide all-wheel drive, and we highly recommend both.

The Maverick feels simple, pleasant, and comfortable to drive like a small SUV despite being a small truck. This is not surprising because it is on the same stage as Bronco Sport.
2025 Ford Maverick Payload
Although the Tremor variation is limited to 1,140 pounds, the 2025 Ford Maverick’s maximum payload is 1,500 pounds, and the Santa Cruz can manage up to 1,411 pounds.

With proper equipment, gasoline models can tow up to 4,000 pounds. Using Tow/Haul or Sport mode allows the driver to access the most power while remaining in one gear of the 8-speed automatic transmission for longer periods.

Updated this year, the hybrid setup is also certified at £4,000 and comes with the appropriate equipment. The Santa Cruz is rated to tow 5,000 pounds for comparison.

2025 Ford Maverick

Though the Tremor variation is limited to 1,140 pounds, the Maverick’s maximum payload is 1,500 pounds. Up to 1,411 pounds the Santa Cruz can manage.

With the proper equipment, gasoline-only models can pull up to 4,000 pounds. Using the Tow/Haul or Sport modes lets the driver access most power by staying in one gear—that of an 8-speed automatic transmission—for longer periods. Updated this year, the hybrid arrangement is also certified at 4,000 pounds and outfitted suitably. The Santa Cruz is rated to pull 5,000 pounds for comparison.

2025 Ford Maverick MPG

Regular petrol runs both engines perfectly. In combined city/highway driving, the turbo unit returns 25 mpg. With all-wheel drive, reduce one or two miles per gallon. Then for the Tremor model, a few more. When all-wheel drive is engaged, the front-drive hybrid returns 37 mpg overall—or about 36 mpg combined.

Driven 15,000 miles annually, this hybrid car will consume 16 gallons less gas each month. At $3.50 per gallon, that’s almost $56 per month.

While the more powerful options only get one thirsty mile per gallon, the base engine in the Santa Cruz returns a combined 22 mpg.

2025 Ford Maverick Features

1. Hybrid Powertrain

Ford is really bringing trucks well into the twenty-first century with the all-electric Maverick and F-150 Lightning. The latter is now available with an all-wheel drive system, which addresses our only complaint.

2. Bedside manners

The 4.5-foot long loading in/out height is a back-friendly 30 inches. In addition to the 110-volt outlet, there are resealable sections on both sides.

3. Tremor

The Tremor advances the Maverick further off-road than the FX4 package. In addition to the suspension settings, other additions include underbody protection, a reshaped front bumper for better approach angles, locking all-wheel-drive hardware, and Trail Control — a cruise control for difficult terrain where the driver only needs to steer and the system handles throttle, brakes, and gears.

4. 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo

With a lower ride height, modified suspension and wheels, a black roof, and a unique Lobo driving mode, this new variation for 2025 pays homage to the street truck sub-genre.

5. 4K Tow package

Along with a higher-capacity radiator with an updated fan and transmission oil cooler, the optional lineup consists of a trailer hitch receiver with a 7-pin connector.

6. B&O audio

OK, not the most elegant sound system created by the renowned audio experts at Bang & Olufsen, but still, the ears find it appealing. The Lariat’s optional Luxury Package includes this 8-speaker setup.

2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD

When the 2025 Ford Maverick arrives with one significant addition of all-wheel drive to the hybrid model, prospective owners celebrate. Ultimately, customers looking for greater traction and fuel economy benefits from a hybrid powertrain will get what they want.

However, some people were surprised to learn that the 2025 owner’s manual recently posted online clearly states that all-wheel drive hybrids cannot be flat-towed. Ford Authority can only report that such information is wrong.

Dawn McKenzie, communications manager for Ford Trucks, claims that the owner’s manual currently incorrectly indicates that the hybrid all-wheel drive 2025 Ford Maverick cannot be flat towed.

While we can also expect an update to correct these inaccuracies, for now, let the record show that every Maverick hybrid pickup can be towed for recreation. Since the pickup’s launch, front-wheel-drive hybrid vehicles have always been flat-towable; this also still applies to the updated version. One cannot tow a Ford Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost pickup.

The 2025 Ford Maverick update offers a lot of value in addition to the hybrid all-wheel drive. Firstly, Sync 4 gives the entire range a 13.2-inch display with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and the standard model also has an eight-inch digital instrument cluster.

2025 Ford Maverick Security

Out of a potential five, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rates the Maverick four stars overall. Despite not having conducted a series of tests so far, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) praised the standard forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

2025 Ford Maverick Price

The 2025 Ford Maverick’s starting price is $27,990, and the top-end Maverick Lobo starts at $42,190. Depending on trim and equipment, the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price currently recommends spending $420 to $42,190 less than MSRP. We update these rates weekly.

If money permits, we recommend opting for the popular Lariat. XL and XLT are not much different from the XLT.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the only small truck competitor. It starts bigger but has more features than the base Maverick.

Check Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Prices to find out what you should pay for a new Maverick truck. The resale value surpasses that of the Santa Cruz. Getting more money from a car sale can mean a larger down payment and a reduced monthly payment on your next payment.

  • XL $27,990
  • XLT $30,490
  • Lariat $38,430
  • Tremor $41,490
  • Lobo $42,190

2025 Ford Maverick Release Date

The 2025 Ford Maverick order bank should be available at the nearest dealer in early 2025. The car should already be ready, and orders will start on August 1.

Verdict

The 2025 Ford Maverick has plenty of space inside, a large bed, and a hybrid drive system. While the ride quality can be a bit rough at times and not as robust as a mid-size or large truck, we generally find the Maverick to be a great way to get a lot of vehicles at a great price.
