Ford’s adaptable successor to the Econoline van series for 2025. Introduced in 2015, the new-generation Transit Cargo offers an exciting range of options in roof height and wheelbase length, a choice of rear or all-wheel drive, and a variety of tow ratings.
The Transit can also be used as a passenger van or as an electric vehicle called an E-Transit. We independently reviewed both models.
The many different configurations on the Transit Cargo Van are difficult to comprehend. First, there are three possible roof heights, two wheelbase choices, extended length variants, optional all-wheel drive, and a wide range of interior and layout options to satisfy every tradesman’s wish list.
Ford can also equip or prepare the Transit Cargo for use as an ambulance, RV, and even an overlander called the Transit Trail.
Transit Cargo Van Configuration and Capacity
Ford built the Transit in several different ways. Low, mid, and high roof heights abound, and wheelbase lengths are consistent, long, and extended. Single or double rear wheels can be used in Transit construction. However, with the front bench seat installed, the Transit Cargo can accommodate up to three passengers.
In any setting, the Transit offers great internal capacity. With a regular long, short roof design, this car has a minimum of 246.7 cubic feet of space behind its front seats. When the front passenger seat is removed, Ford notes a possible maximum capacity of 536.4 cubic feet in the standard extended high roof.

Ford provides a Transit Passenger van when three-row SUVs don’t work. There are several ways to set it up with eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, or fifteen people seated.
New Trade Package Upfit Kit for 2025 Transit
Ford is rolling out four new trade packages for 2025 to provide popular equipment options on the Transit from the factory. These packages are aimed at sectors that typically rely on commercial vans to complete their tasks.
Starting at $4,370, electrician trade kits include reels for hanging spools of wire and cabinets and boxes for component storage.
In addition to shelving and large bins, the HVAC trade package installed refrigerant storage space. Starting at $4,440, that’s it.
Transit fits a general contractor’s package with shelves, drawers, bins, and hooks. It starts at 2,900.
Collapsible shelving equipment provides the van with high-capacity shelving within the cargo compartment for delivery delivery operations.
2025 Ford Transit Interior
Combining some design ideas from the Ford Explorer with van-specific characteristics, such as prominent cupholders at each end of the dashboard, the Transit’s cabin design reflects the rest of Ford’s product portfolio. For a work van, the seats are comfortable, the ride is smooth, and internal noise levels are kept to a minimum.
Different roof heights and wheelbase lengths offer a virtual blank slate ready to adapt to your needs. The crew van leaves plenty of room for luggage or equipment and even adds a second row of seating to accommodate three more passengers.
Also available and featuring interior elements suitable for an adventure van, such as swiveling front seats, an onboard AC inverter, and an internal fuse panel, is a camper-ready variant known as the Transit Trail. Transit Trail doesn’t have an Instagram-friendly living room; Ford lets you or your chosen repairman handle such adjustments.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The base 2025 Ford Transit features a four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, and a 4.0-inch multifunction display. Each model also has a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing your guests to enjoy simple connectivity.
Among the possibilities is a larger 12.0-inch display running Ford’s Sync 4. The revised system features integrated navigation for Sirius XM satellite radio and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.
The Transit really needs Ford’s optional Sync infotainment system. It features easy-to-use voice commands, a clear 8-inch display for navigation screens, and smartphone connectivity for Apple and Android machines.
While not particularly flashy, the eight-speaker stereo included with the Sync system performs the necessary function. Six USB ports and two 12-volt outlets should keep most of your equipment charged.
Transit has several driver aids. Rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot alert are standard. Adaptive cruise control and a split-view front camera are optional. Both did quite well in our tests.
2025 Ford Transit Engine
Two powertrains and rear- or all-wheel drive define the available Transit options. Rated for 275 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, the 3.5-liter normally aspirated V-6 engine is rated for 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, defining the EcoBoost turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6.
Both are combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Its van-appropriate suspension setup is a delight, and handling is also excellent. While this doesn’t make or break the price of a vehicle, it does help keep its occupants feeling fresh during long stretches of hard work.
Performance and MPG
A 3.5-liter V-6 engine producing 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque will be the base engine on the 2025 Transit. Performance of the optional EcoBoost twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine increases to 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque -ft. Standard RWD and optional AWD, both engines are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
While vehicle accessories and body type will affect fuel efficiency, an unladen Transit van can get about 14–15/18–19 mpg city/highway.
The Ford Transit EV
Some business drivers will find an electric vehicle suitable for their needs; Ford meets them with E-Transit. The all-electric Vas, as does the gas-powered Transit, offers several options and combinations.
While the powertrain produces strong, smooth electric torque, range and charging are important factors.
2025 Ford Transit Safety
Every 2025 Ford Transit model includes front automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, cruise control, automatic high beam, ms, and crosswind stabilization. Adaptive cruise control, rear automatic emergency braking, side traffic alert, blind spot monitoring with trailer reach, and Semi-automatic park assist are among the available driver assistance and active safety technologies.

Consumers looking for a more conventional and much older design should consider the Chevrolet Express. Ford provides a smaller Transit Connect if the Ford Transit seems too big for their needs.
The Transit Cargo Van is one of the most flexible vehicles available, customizable to your specific load, cargo space, and organizational needs. Based on last year’s Transit Cargo, we recommend adding features like an optional 12-inch infotainment screen, a surround-view camera system, and digital mirrors to make it easier to maneuver this big van in space. Ford has not released any official information about the 2025 Transit Cargo as of this writing.
2025 Ford Transit Price
Depending on trim and extras, the 2025 Ford Transit is slated to start at $49,495 and go up to $68,000. We think the base model Ford Transit T-150 Cargo Van offers the best value in the group unless you’re building a road vehicle or camper, in which case you’ve likely already set your sights on the Transit Trail.
Riding on 16-inch steel wheels, the van has exterior features, including a split-swing rear door for easy cargo access and power-adjustable rearview mirrors. To keep you comfortable behind the wheel, there’s a four-way adjustable driver’s seat and a manually tilt-and-telescoping steering column.

Among the most competent vehicles available on the road today is the Ford Transit. Our test van came in a 14-passenger, heavy-duty, high-roof, extra-long setup, and dual rear wheels. Although it is quite large, this shows that it can tow a large trailer, transport maximum goods, and easily move groups of people.
