2023 Ford Expedition planning to tow or haul a lot in your SUV? The 2023 Ford Expedition might be what you’re looking for. This large three-row SUV offers to seat eight people and is one of the largest and most capable vehicles out there.
But it’s also highly refined and offers almost everything Ford supplies these days in terms of technology, including the BlueCruise, which is a handy hands-free driver assistance system for use on certain highways.
Most of the Expedition’s powerful abilities come through its truck-based foundation. Ford says you can tow up to £9,300 with the Expedition when properly equipped.
That’s enough to tow a trailer or a good-sized boat. Or if you need space for a family trip or to help with moving house, there’s the Expedition Max body style with a long wheelbase and 121.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row seats.
The Expedition is one of the few large SUVs in existence. The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon (plus the associated Suburban and Yukon XL) are the Expedition’s main rivals, but you might also consider the relatively new Jeep Wagoneer or Wagoneer L.
Toyota also released a redesigned Sequoia. What is the best max-size SUV for you? Read our test team’s Expert Ratings to find out how Expeditions are going.

2023 Ford Expedition Review
The Ford Expedition 2023 is one SUV that can do it all. This is a great family carrier with three rows of incredibly spacious seats, plus plenty of cargo space.
It also has truck-like capabilities with a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds with its twin-turbo V6 engine.
The Expedition just got a thorough update for 2022 with a refreshed styling, new Timberline and Stealth trims, and major tech updates, including the BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system.
For this reason, we expect the 2023 Expedition to be a carryover model without significant changes. The model range, price, and powertrain options should be about the same as the 2022 model.
With two wheelbases and a variety of trims available such as the off-road-ready Timberline, the luxurious Platinum, and the more affordable lower trim, there’s an Expedition for everyone on the market for a full-size SUV that can haul the whole family while towing a boat without breaking a sweat.
The Ford Expedition 2023 is expected to receive a round of updates on the 2022 model. The final Expedition was redesigned for the 2018 model year when it moved to an aluminum-dense platform and was derived from the latest Ford F-150.
That reduces weight substantially on some models, and, with the continued dropping of placing a turbocharged V6 instead of a rival V8 makes the Expedition faster and slightly more efficient than other very large SUVs.
Revisions for 2022 include moderate styling changes along the lines of the latest F-150, including changes to the grille and exterior lighting, along with new wheel options.
A new dashboard design was also introduced. The most significant change, along with the upgraded material, is the new infotainment system.
A 12-inch touchscreen is standard, but the portrait-oriented 15.5-inch version is optional and both use the latest Sync 4 system.
Later in the model year, Ford introduced the Timberline edition. Available only in standard lengths, the Expedition Timberline features a grille and exterior trim that is unlike any other, along with 33-inch all-terrain tires and a higher ride height.
The trim levels for 2022 are XLT STX, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum.
The Limited can be equipped with a Stealth Package that increases horsepower and uses 22-inch wheels with a stiffer suspension. All of this is likely to continue into 2023.
All Expeditions are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
That makes 380 horsepower, 400 on the Limited model, and 440 horsepower on the Timberline, and when the Limited is equipped with the Stealth Package. Apart from the Timberline, rear-wheel drive is the standard and all-wheel drive is available.
Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has completed crash tests on the 2022 Expedition, but NHTSA gave the rear-wheel-drive model four stars in the side impact test and three stars in the roll test. Five stars max.
By 2022, Ford is adding advanced BlueCruise driver-assist technology to the Platinum model, which can perform steering assist and braking at highway speeds.
2023 Ford Expedition Diesel
The expedition can be equipped with two V8 engines and two 3 liter turbo diesel engines
2023 Ford Expedition Timberline
Exterior Zone Lighting on the Ford Expedition divides exterior lighting into four zones allowing you to turn each zone on and off independently or simultaneously to provide lighting all around your vehicle.
The available Antilock Brake System (ABS) provides excellent Trace Control. Equipped with sensors to determine the speed of the wheels when braking, if one of the wheels starts to lock, then the wheel will brake optimally so that the wheel does not shift.
The rugged road suspension is a new, upgraded feature that delivers unique premium off-road shocks, tuning, and ground clearance.
2023 Expedition Hybrid
There’s no official word on the 2023 Expedition Hybrid so far but the Expedition 2022 is expected to sport a PowerBoost V6 setup, which pairs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with a 35-kilowatt electric motor and 1 lithium-ion battery, 5-kilowatt-hour, mated.
To a 10-speed automatic transmission. In the truck, it produces 430 horsepower (321 kilowatts) and 570 pound-feet (773 Newton-meters) of torque, promising up to 12,000 pounds of maximum towing.
The hybrid powertrain is expected to be offered alongside the twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, with the former being provided as a top-range option for Expedition buyers. We hope there will be a hybrid in the upcoming 2023 Expedition.
2023 Ford Expedition Price
We expect the Ford Expedition 2023 price to start at around $51,000 for the base, standard wheelbase model. For a fully loaded long-wheelbase Expedition Platinum Max, you can pay around $80,000.
If you have more room in your budget, consider Expedition’s luxury cousin, the Lincoln Navigator.
The Ford Expedition’s closest rival is the Chevrolet Tahoe. For the Expedition Max with its long axle, this is the Chevrolet Suburban. The full-size Chevy SUVs are priced the same as their Ford counterparts.
The big difference is that the Chevrolet model offers a choice of two V8 or turbo-diesel engines under the hood. In contrast, the only engine option at Ford is the powerful twin-turbo V6 which is available with a few different setups.
2023 Ford Expedition Release Date
Preliminary fleet production data for the 2023 Expedition shows an estimated production start date of November 2022.
That is subject to change, so stay tuned for possible updates. If you are interested in purchasing one, you may want to contact your local dealer to make a reservation in advance.
Pricing should also be very similar to the 2022 model, which starts at $53,775 MSRP for the two-line XLT STX version.
The three-line XLT starts at $57,835 and goes up to the top-tier Platinum for $79,460. Extended Max versions of every model except the XLT STX and Timberline add $2,000.
2023 Ford Expedition is a large SUV that is at the top of Ford’s current top SUV lineup. The Ford Expedition is designed to be exactly like a traditional truck, which has more in common with the Ford F-150 than with crossovers like the Ford Escape and Explorer.
The Ford Expedition is intended to be able to add several useful improvements both in terms of interior, exterior, and performance package and includes the appearance of a standard 12-inch screen with 15.5 inches which is larger than the Premium trim.
The Ford BlueCruise system is also embedded in this SUV vehicle by giving the atmosphere of a Ford semi-automatic driving system that is available on more than 100,000 miles of prequalified highways in North America.
We see the Limited trim on the Ford Expedition as a perfect fit with lots of luxury features, such as a power tailgate, power-folding running board, and leather seats, as well as nice features including an upgraded audio system, front parking sensors, and second-row seats. heated.
If you want a little extra performance from the Limited trim, we recommend opting for the new Stealth Performance package. That gives you a more powerful engine, sports suspension, and dark exterior trim.
