2023 Ford F350 is introducing the new F-series Super Duty, the next generation of its heavy-duty pickup trucks. The new Super Task gets an entirely new exterior and interior design, new technology, and new powertrain options to help it stay strong in the highly competitive truck market.
According to Ford, the 2023 Super Duty is now poised to deliver the highest engine output, as well as the highest towing and payload ratings, of all vehicles in the large muscular HD pickup segment.
Depending on how the gear is, Super Quests are capable of hauling loads of up to 8,000 pounds or towing trailers worth up to 40,000 pounds.
Complementing these efforts is a suite of new technologies that make driving and towing safer and more convenient, including a blind spot monitoring system for five-wheeled trailers and goosenecks. Super Duty is also flexing its innovation muscle with the industry’s first “tailgate down” backup camera and 5G Wi-Fi hotspot.
2023 Ford F350 Review
Ford’s new 2023 F350 heavy-duty pickup truck starts from tires to the 2023 model year and gets a revitalized engine in addition to its new look. Under the hood, the 7.3-liter V-8 gets a revised air intake and enhanced tuning, and there’s an all-new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel engine.
Outside, the new Super Duty adopts the familiar design language of the Ford F-150 and the smaller Maverick pickup, which includes the brand’s signature “C-clamp” lighting. We’re happy to report that Super Duty uses functional side vents instead of trendy fakes.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a redesigned dashboard along with a new digital instrument cluster and a 12.0-inch infotainment display. In addition, four-wheel drive became standard on XLT and Lariat models, not just on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Rear-wheel drive is still standard on the XL base.
Drivers who need the ultimate truck in the Ford lineup should look for the F-350 Super Duty. Available with dual rear wheels, this is the largest and most advanced passenger vehicle to wear the Blue Oval badge and has been redesigned for the 2023 model year.
Although towing and haulage numbers have yet to be announced, it is expected to be high enough to make the F-350 Competitors from Ram and General Motors nervous.

2023 Ford F350 Engine
The standard V-8 engine now boasts a displacement of 6.8 liters, up from 6.2, and is said to have improved low-end grunts. While the larger gas-fired 7.3-liter engine saw some minor improvements, our attention was drawn to the high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel, which produces 500 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque.
The Power Stroke engine also features a new turbocharger along with an improved exhaust manifold and unique tuning. All engine options are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford has not disclosed horsepower or torque figures for any Super Duty engines, but the company’s claim that the truck will have the most powerful engine in its class would certainly apply to the Power Stroke diesel.
The F-350 will be sold exclusively with a V-8 engine. Gasoline options consist of 6.8 and 7.3-liter units. The former produces 400 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque, and the latter produces 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque.
The turbodiesel 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine is also available in two conditions. On the “low” end is a variant that produces 475 hp of power and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The high-output version has an upgraded turbocharger and produces 500 hp of power and 1,200 lb-ft of torque.
All these engines are combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission, with RWD standards and 4WD available.
Crane and Payload Capacity
Ford says it’s building the 2023 Super Duty to be a class leader in towing and payload capacity. Super Quest offers a maximum payload capacity of 8,000 pounds and can pull up to 40,000 pounds. To manage all those capabilities, the automaker has equipped the truck with a number of trailer assist features.
Among them is an onboard scale with Smart Hitch, which estimates the weight of the cargo in real-time and provides guidance on the distribution of the weight of the trailer tongue. There is also Trailer Navigation, which can optimize the travel route based on the dimensions and weight of the trailer.
2023 Ford F350 MPG
Because the EPA doesn’t test vehicles as heavy as Super Duty and its big competitors, we judge them based on our own testing.
Now that Ford has overhauled powertrain options for its heavy-duty pickup trucks, we’ll have to wait until we get a new one to evaluate real-world mpg on our 75 mph highway fuel economy routes. We expect the Super Duty optional Power Stroke diesel to be the most fuel-efficient engine in its lineup.
2023 Ford F350 Safety
2023 F-350 should be lighter to drive thanks to the many active driver assistance and safety features available. Among these are adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, a great aid in road driving.
Beyond normal blind spot monitoring, a blind spot sensor can be attached to a trailer to expand the effectiveness of this feature. Parking this leviathan is easier thanks to front and rear parking sensors and automatic braking. Other features such as trailer theft alerts and the ability to schedule ignition hours add appeal to fleet managers.
A number of new driver-assist technologies are integrated into the Super Duty 2023 design, including some new trailer features and adaptive cruise control, but many features are still optional. For more information on Super Duty crash test results, visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key security features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking
- Line departure alerts are available with line maintenance assistance
- Adaptive cruise control available with lane centering feature
2023 Ford F350 Interior
The new interior design is an improvement over the 2022 model, but those on the market for the basic trim of the XL should still prepare a fairly simple cabin.
More comfort and luxury features are available as you go through the various trims, and Ford has engineered a front seat that can be reclined to an almost flat position so that the driver can take a good rest when stopping overnight on a long-distance trip. Ford hasn’t released a full list of 2023 Super Duty interior features and options, but we’ll update this story with details after learning more.
The F-350 is built in a Regular Cab configuration as standard, providing seats for three passengers. Available SuperCab and Crew Cab add rear doors and seats for the other three passengers.
Two beds are available for the F-350, with the Regular Cab model getting a longer bed and the SuperCab and Crew Cab models offering the choice between shorter and longer beds. Ford also equipped its Super Duty pickup with many ways to get up and down from bed, namely integrated side footings and handrails, rear bumper footings, and rear door footings closer to the ground.
Tech
With its various technological features, the F-350 looks like a truck for the modern era. The standard 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen was replaced with a 12.0-inch unit on high-end models; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
Beyond the 12.0-inch digital gauge display, a head-up display is also offered. Four standard USB ports can be equipped with a wireless charger. Premium audio systems from Bang & Olufsen are available with eight or 18 speakers.
Software for telematics and fleet management under the Ford Pro brand allows businesses to oversee the use of Super Duty. 5G wireless connectivity provides fast internet access. Many cameras are distributed throughout the outside of the truck.
One is the industry’s first tailgate-down the camera, in addition to a hitchhiking camera and a 360-degree viewing system that works even when the trailer is attached. The semi-autonomous hitching system easily aligns the truck with the trailer.
Once installed, the built-in navigation system can plan routes that use trailer dimensions to plan routes that are free of permit issues. Available over-the-air updates and onboard load scales are also new.

Infotainment and Connectivity
The XL base trim comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the more expensive models get a larger 12.0-inch screen. A reconfigurable 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster is also available.
Ford has integrated 5G Wi-Fi hotspots as well as onboard fleet management and telematics software to help businesses track the location of their trucks and help operators stay on top of maintenance.
All models are equipped with a Bang & Olufsen-tuned stereo system. 640 watts setup, eight speakers are standard; which is 1080 watts, and 18 speakers are optional.
Off-Road
No F-350 will be as terrain ready as the Ford Bronco, but the Tremor package makes it more capable on rough terrain. The package adds a lifted suspension, along with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires. Dana’s front axle with limited slip differential adds traction.
Various off-mode driving features such as the new trail turn assist help maneuver the F-350 Tremor package through technical terrain.
All models from the F-350 XLT 2023 and above are equipped with standard 4WD, so almost every trim has the off-road capability. Even the base XL model now has an off-road package available for 4WD single-wheel rear-wheel pickups.
These include 33-inch tires, elevated air dams, water-shading axle ventilation tubes, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential.
2023 Ford F-350 XL Regular Cab Dually
Ford Authority spies have seen a number of refreshed 2023 Ford Super Duty prototypes driving around over the past few months, including, most recently, the double F-450 King Ranch and the tough, off-road-focused Tremor for the first time.
Now, as we get closer to the official reveal, the same spies have found another version of the upcoming fresh pickup – this time, the regular cabin of the 2023 Ford F-350 XL in dual.
This regular dual-cabin model of the 2023 Ford F-350 XL gives us a good view of the entry-level hardworking in the Super Duty range, which has a much shorter wheelbase than most retail customer variants.
As such, it features a more basic all-black front grille design, as well as a much simpler headlight design than the existing units on some of the higher trim prototypes that were spied on earlier.
The same is true as we move sideways, as this prototype wears a more basic wheel design than the king ranch spied on before.
It’s unclear if this particular prototype comes with one big new feature, which was originally reported by the Ford Authority in June and confirmed roughly one week later – an integrated bed step.
At the rear, the prototype features the same updated taillight design we’ve seen on previously spied-on prototypes, although the tailgate is covered with a thick camo, hiding potential changes there.
As for the updated 2023 Super Duty interior, it has been spied on several times, starting with a peek at the plain XL cabin and an assembly line video showing off the maintenance of the Ford F-150 inspired.
Recently, the Ford Authority spy gave us the first look at the single-binnacle design of the truck, which is a major deviation from the layout of the existing model’s double-binnacle.
As for powertrains, the 2023 Super Duty won’t get a hybrid option, as Ford Authority reported roughly one week ago, while the order bank for the new pickup is currently scheduled to open in October.

2023 Ford F350 6.8-Liter V-8
The upcoming 2023 Ford Super Duty pickup could get the option of a naturally aspirated 6.8-liter petrol engine, according to a report from the Ford Authority.
Ford Authority, citing unnamed sources, claims the new powerplant will replace the aging 6.2-liter engine found on current Super Duty models. The publication estimates it will be placed under the 7.3-liter V-8 “Godzilla” and the 6.7-liter Powerstroke turbodiesel.
Power figures for the new 6.8-liter are still unclear, though the Ford Authority estimates it will have more than 6.2 that comes out 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque but less than Godzilla’s 430 hp and 475 lb-ft.
We’ve reached out to Ford to confirm if the report is true, but given that the new Super Duty hasn’t been revealed yet, it doesn’t look like any official information will be released early.
2023 Ford F350 Release Date
The 2023 Ford Super Duty is expected to be shown on September 14 during the Detroit Auto Show.
2023 Ford F350 Price
The 2023 Super Duty lineup follows the same trim-level structure as the previous model. We tend to recommend the mid-level Lariat because it provides valuable comforts — including LED lighting, electric front seats, a 360-degree camera package, and a B&O audio system — at a simpler price than the more expensive King Ranch and platinum Trim.
- XL $45,765
- XLT $49,495
- Lariat $61,935
- King Ranch $77,770
- Platinum $78,660
- Limited $97,890
