2024 Ford Mustang seems poised to celebrate 60 years of the iconic Mustang by revealing a redesigned model, with a pair of hybrid powertrains expected to eventually join the lineup.
Car & Driver North America reports the next-generation Mustang – codenamed S650 – will debut in April 2023.
Ford may choose to reveal it on April 17, symbolically important to the company as it was on this date the original Mustang was revealed at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
The S650 Mustang is expected to have an eight-year life cycle – similar to the last two generations – with additional performance variants to be launched during this time.
The S650 Mustang will also reportedly launch with a carryover turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine.
In the Australian-market Mustang, the EcoBoost four produces 236kW of power and 448Nm of torque while the Coyote V8 produces 339kW and 556Nm. It’s not clear if the S650 will see that output increase.
This carryover machine will reportedly join the hybrid version at a later date.
2024 Ford Mustang Review
The next 2024 Ford Mustang could feature the first hybrid V8 drivetrain and a slightly different look than before.
While Stellantis-owned companies like Dodge and Chrysler are moving further and further toward electrification, Ford is sticking to its guns and will likely continue with the V8 for the foreseeable future.
According to Car and Driver, there’s a very good chance in the Mustang’s 60th year (2024) when Ford reveals a full new generation.
In its seventh-generation form, also known as the S650, the Ford Mustang should offer an updated version of the 2.3-liter Ecoboost turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has its roots in cars like the previous Ford Focus RS Mk 3.
Ford Mustang 2024 The six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic, both currently offered in Australia, are expected to remain for the next generation.
Even more appealing to traditional Mustang fans, Car and Driver expects the new Mustang to retain the V8 engine and potentially add a hybrid version.
That’s not a bad thing when you think about it. Hybrid technology will offer lower fuel efficiency and emissions to meet increasingly stringent emission limits in America and globally.
This could save the V8 a bit longer and give Americans, in particular, something to cheer them on.
The GT500’s 5.2-liter V8 can be maintained, but is on loan and could be sent to the cutting block before too long as regulations get tougher.
Finally, the electric Mustang sports car is sure to arrive (alongside the current Mustang Mach-E electric SUV), as Ford is following other American-based manufacturers in reducing emissions and embracing electric and hybrid technologies.
2024 Mustang
Teased in January 2022 under the guise of a V8-engined race car, the S650 won’t come with a muscle eight cylinder right off the bat.
Everyone is looking forward to the 2.3-liter EcoBoost brought to the 2024 model, complemented by a 5.0-liter Coyote that gives the Mustang personality with a DOHC valvetrain compared to competing pushrod engines.
Spyed on by Roman Mica of The Fast Lane, this prototype uses a ten-spoke alloy. Back in April 2022, leaked photos of the most basic specs revealed a five-spoke alloy for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost.
In other words, the ten-spoke wheel is likely included in the package or a standalone option.
Believed 2024 Ford will rock a custom platform with bits and pieces from the CD6 that underpins the mid-size utility Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator, the Mustang is expected to carry the 5.2-liter Predator as well.
Only Blue Oval knows if its flat-crankshaft 5.2-liter Voodoo will be resurrected for the GT350, but we’re keeping that in mind.
If General Motors had the guts to put a flat crankshaft in the Z06, the Blue Oval would probably respond well, even more so if the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger would go the dodo way.
As usual, the Dearborn-based automaker will use a manual from Getrag, a manual from Tremec, a ten-speed automatic developed and manufactured by Ford, as well as a double-clutch tranny supplied by Tremec.
All-wheel drive is impossible…unless Ford Motor Company surprises everyone with a hybrid like the one Chevrolet planned with the Corvette E-Ray.
Ford Expedition Redesign 2024
Ford Mustang Redesign The Ford Mustang 2024 is undergoing altitude testing. TFLNow is in the right place at the right time to find someone sitting in the parking lot.
The video is short, but it’s a great look at the next generation of pony cars.
This Mustang is under heavy camouflage with a combination of fabric panels and camouflage.
The wide grille is visible at the front, and it appears that there are three entrance holes in the lower fascia. The nose looks very long. This car uses black wheels, 10 bars with a V-shaped design.
The most interesting thing TFLNow looks at is the rear of this Mustang to check whether there are two or four exhaust pipes. This one has a pair – one outlet coming out from each side.
So far, we’ve only seen one Mustang test with four exhaust pipes. The car is on the road with a Mach 1 model.
In addition to the extra outlets, this vehicle has a more aggressive wheel and tire package than other development vehicles.
A leaked image shows the Mustang’s nose without camouflage. There are narrow headlights with three lighting elements in them. The lower fascia has a wide trapezoidal opening in the middle, and there are smaller inlets on the sides.
At launch, the Mustang 2024 will reportedly arrive with the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost or the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 of the current model.
However, we do not know whether Ford intends to increase the output of the plant.
There are still rumors of a new Mustang being available with a hybrid-assisted V8. The setup allegedly includes an electric motor that will turn the front axle. The result of this layout will be the first all-wheel-drive Mustang.
The 2024 Mustang will reportedly debut in April 2023. We know there will be racing variants of the coupe, convertible, and GT3 class.
2024 Ford Mustang Price
Mustang is expected to continue to offer the four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, as well as the V-8 in the 2024 Mustang GT model. We estimate the former will start at around $30,000 and the latter at $40,000.
While we won’t know the specifics of each trim until the 2024 Mustang debuts, it would be hard not to recommend the top-dog GT.
A Mustang with a V-8 engine feels just right, delivering more performance and an ear-pleasing growl.
Plus, this might be the last chance to buy a new V-8-powered Mustang, as future generations of muscle cars may focus on EVs or hybrid powertrains.
- 2024 Ford Mustang GT $40,000 (est)
- EcoBoost $30,000 (est)

2024 Ford Mustang there was a lot of buzz surrounding Ford’s impending redesign for the 2024 Mustang redesign when spy shots captured the next-generation prototype wearing full camouflage being tested around Ford headquarters.
Rumors of the upcoming changes include a potential electrified variant in the form of a hybrid and all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
In an announcement on June 2, Ford confirmed that the redesigned Mustang would be built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
While we don’t yet have the full specifications of the 2024 Mustang or horsepower information, the prospect of a completely redesigned pony car could be interesting given that the Mustang remains the brand’s only car sold in the US.
Regarding the release date, Australian website WhereCar has reportedly received confirmation from Ford that the next-gen Mustang will indeed arrive in 2023.
Interestingly, the publication also knows that the redesigned Mustang coupe will continue to offer V8 engine options despite a broader shift towards electrification and stricter emission regulations.
Previously, Autoblog reported rumors that Ford might be considering replacing its Mustang engine lineup and is ready to introduce a hybrid powertrain that uses a base 2.3 liter engine and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but this has not been confirmed by Ford so we’ll have to wait and see. see.
Today’s Mustangs are equipped with different engine options depending on the desired performance. The base engine is a 2.3-liter Turbo four-cylinder and can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic.
The Mustang GT gets a 5.0-liter V8 engine and gets the same transmission options. The Shelby GT500 gets a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine paired to a seven-speed automatic clutch.
The current Mustang’s standard infotainment system includes a 4.2-inch display in the center stack, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, enhanced voice recognition, two USB ports and six audio speakers.
Eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, HD Radio and satellite radio are optional.
The current Mustang comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of advanced safety features and driver assistance technology.
Standard features include a rearview camera, automatic high beam assist, blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane guard assistance, pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and forward collision warning. Adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors can be optionally added.
2024 Ford Mustang Review
The next generation Ford Mustang is coming. We’ve seen the spy photos and we’ve confirmed the power of the V8 in the spy video up close.
Ford announced intentions to race the Mustang GT3 in 2024, so we already have a few more pieces to the bangs puzzle. Now, we have an interpretation of how the new Mustang will look.
It is important to note that this is indeed an unofficial interpretation. The video is from The Sketch Monkey, and although it’s based on spy photos, we only see the vehicle in heavy camouflage.
The details are still well hidden, but a few spy shots at least give a hint of what’s going on underneath, especially with the Mustang’s face.
Thus, that is the essence of this project. And if accurate, Ford’s pony car wouldn’t stray too far from the current formula.
If there’s only one word to describe this rendering, it’s clean. Using the body lines seen through thick camouflage, the grille is imagined to be a bit narrower and with clear cues from the Mustang Mach-E.
In essence, turning the Mustang’s current crease upside down, creates a slightly happier looking grille. This fits perfectly with the narrow headlights also envisioned from the spy shots, suggesting that the lens will gradually grow larger as it reaches to the fender.
The sharp-angle vents on the Mustang’s lower fascia are now gone, replaced by conservative rectangular openings connected by a lower grille that spans the width of the car.
We haven’t clearly seen a next-generation car without a substantial cover. However, we’ve seen enough to know the overall shape will be very similar to today’s cars.
The dimensions look almost the same, from the overall height to the roof slope and even the angle of the rear fascia.
It’s safe to say that the new Mustang will adopt an evolutionary approach, making it universal enough to win over a global audience.
However, is that enough to attract stubborn buyers in the United States? Ford’s pony car had its worst-selling year in 2021, marking a year-long decline that actually saw the Dodge Challenger take the Mustang’s best-selling crown for North America.
We have to think the executives at Dearborn are at least a little concerned about that.

2024 Ford Mustang Report
Ford seems poised to celebrate 60 years of the iconic Mustang by revealing a redesigned model, with a pair of hybrid powertrains expected to eventually join the lineup.
Ford Authority reports that the Mustang will continue to be offered only with rear-wheel drive.
The S650 Mustang will also reportedly launch with a carryover turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine.
In the Australian market Mustang, the EcoBoost four produces 236kW of power and 448Nm of torque while the Coyote V8 produces 339kW and 556Nm. It’s not clear if the S650 will see that output increase.
This carryover machine will reportedly join the hybrid version at a later date.
A report from Automotive News last year said the first electric Mustang models would arrive in 2025. This, of course, does not include the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover already on sale.
Subsequently, a Mustang7G forum member found mention of the 2.3-liter inline-four and 5.0-liter V8 hybrids on Ford’s product development engineer’s LinkedIn page.
The engineer is registered to have worked on the Mustang S650 program from July 2020 to November 2020.
Not yet
it is clear whether the hybrid model will be a mild, serial, or plug-in hybrid.
Spy photos have shown the S650 Mustang will have a more driver-focused cockpit, with the center stack tilted toward the driver.
2024 Ford Mustang Specs
The 2024 Ford Mustang looks set to be offered with a manual gearbox, after the company teased the graphics with flashy hints.
Ford confirmed it would build its next Mustang at its Flat Rock plant in Michigan, and as part of the announcement, released accompanying images sporting the six-speed H-pattern in the ‘o’ of the “Seventh Generation”.
This is the first time the new Mustang has been officially confirmed by Blue Oval, although rough images surfaced online in April showing what appears to be a ‘pony car’ prototype.
Former Ford CEO Mark Fields had previously suggested the next Mustang would be a V8 hybrid, saying in January 2017 the powertrain would provide “V8 power and even more low-end torque”.
Although the vehicle was originally slated for launch in 2020, the project has been pushed back several times, and is now expected to be revealed in March 2023.
Details of the Ford Mustang 2024 are not fully known at this stage, but the new generation model is expected to be a heavy rework of the current vehicle – much like the new Nissan Z which is based on the 370Z architecture.
This could be the last time the Ford Mustang will be offered with a V8 – and a manual gearbox – with industry rumors suggesting the coupe will move to an all-electric powertrain by the end of the decade.
If true, that would give the seventh-generation version a limited life cycle of just six years, and could justify Ford basing it off the current Mustang instead of pouring money into a new chassis.
In late 2020, union representatives revealed that a 6.8-liter V8 engine was being developed for Ford for use in the Mustang and F-150.
Ford’s approach to the inevitable electrification of its product lineup may be pragmatic, but these rumors suggest that Ford may also be gearing up to celebrate the V8 with its upcoming Mustang, complete with clutch pedal.

2024 Ford Mustang Exterior
The exterior changes are less extensive, with leaked photos revealing the Ford hasn’t strayed too far from the current slightly retro model line.
The first image was posted on the Mustang7G forums and shows what appears to be a GT model.
There’s a more square look to the front end, with a large hexagonal center grille with vertical bars, a lower trapezoidal air intake and two large side air intakes, as well as thinner headlamps with three square elements inside.
Compared to the current Mustang S550, there is a more aggressive looking bumper with a clear line separating the grille and air intakes.
The hood remains long with folds similar to the current model, but there is a new curve in the middle.
Another leaked image, published by Ford Authority, appears to show the base model’s undisguised front fascia.
It features smaller grille openings than the leaky GT model and non-aggressive air intakes. There are also smaller alloy wheels, while the hood doesn’t have a spoon.
2024 Ford Mustang Price
While sales of the Pony Car may have slowed in the US market, the Mustang is still an important model for the brand given its halo effect and legacy.
In Australia, it is also one of Ford’s best-selling models. Last year, Ford sold 2,827 units, placing it behind only the Puma (3218), Everest (8359) and Ranger (50,279).
More information on pricing will be available closer to the sale date. The price of the Mustang currently ranges from $29,995 to $77,260 with the aim of being included.
