All-New Update 2024 Ford Expedition SUV Review

Posted on

2024 Ford Expedition is reportedly receiving a planned redesign to make this SUV even better than before. The 2024 Ford Expedition is expected to share a similar design to the newly redesigned F-150 pickup truck.

The large Ford Expedition SUV features a square grille with two trim pieces running through it and spanning the full width of the front end. The design of the lamp has a c-shaped daytime running light. The rear of the SUV has square taillights and an upright rear with black D-pillars.

Refreshments continued with the interior design with several major technological improvements. A redesign for the 2024 model year could see this massive SUV arrive with a new dash design, especially with updated center console upgrades and instrument cluster design.

On the technology front, the 2024 Ford Expedition also comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen and an eight-inch digital instrument cluster. Wi-Fi hotspot features, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are also present in the 2024 Ford Expedition.

In addition, complete with four USB ports, and six audio speakers. This SUV is also available with a 15.5-inch touchscreen. 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, wireless charging pad, and satellite radio.

The 2024 Ford Expedition is rumored to come with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine in a few states with power output for the current engine ranging from 380 hp to 440 hp.

With the help of an advanced hands-free driver called BlueCruise on the current Expedition. We were hoping for improvements to the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking which are much needed when driving.

Safety features are also present in lane maintenance assistance and lane departure warning. Additionally, upgrades to blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning come standard.

2024 Ford Expedition Review

The 2024 Expedition is one of those SUVs that can do it all. This is an excellent family carrier with three rows of very spacious seats, plus a lot of cargo space. It also has truck-like capabilities with a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds with its twin-turbo V6 engine.

2024 Ford Expedition

The expedition just got a thorough update for 2022 with fresher styling, new Timberline and Stealth trim, and major technology updates, including blue cruises’ hands-free road driving system.

To that end, we expect Expedition 2024 to be a carryover model without significant changes. The model range, price, and powertrain options should be about the same as the 2022 model.

With two wheelbases and a wide variety of trims available such as the off-road-ready Timberline, the luxury Platinum, and the more affordable bottom trim, there’s an expedition for everyone on the market for a full-size SUV that can transport the whole family while towing a boat without breaking a sweat.

Planning to tow or transport a lot of stuff in your SUV? The 2024 Ford Expedition might be what you’re looking for. This large three-row SUV offers to seat eight people and is one of the largest and most capable vehicles out there.

But it’s also heavily refined and offers almost everything Ford supplies these days in terms of technology, including BlueCruise, which is a hands-free driver assistance system that’s useful for use on certain highways.

Most of Expedition’s powerful capabilities come through its truck-based foundation. Ford says you can withdraw up to £9,300 with Expeditions when properly equipped. It was enough to pull a trailer or a nice-sized boat.

Or if you need space for a family trip or to help move house, there’s the Expedition Max body style with a long wheelbase and 121.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row of seats.

The expedition was one of the few large SUVs in existence. The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon (plus the Suburban and related Yukon XL) are the Expedition’s main rivals, but you can also consider the relatively new Jeep Wagoneer or Wagoneer L.

Toyota also issued a redesigned Sequoia. What is the best max-size SUV for you? Read our test team’s Expert Ranking to find out how the Expedition is going.

  • Spacious interior with plenty of passenger and cargo space
  • Fast acceleration of the powerful V6 engine
  • Large standard display screen, or even a larger optional display screen
  • Attracts more than the same-sized SUV
  • No major changes expected for 2024
  • Part of the fourth expedition generation introduced in 2018

2024 Ford Expedition Redesign

The 2024 Ford Expedition is expected to receive a round of updates over the 2022 model. The last expedition was redesigned for the 2018 model year when it moved to an aluminum-dense platform and was derived from the latest Ford F-150.

That reduces weight substantially on some models, and, with the continuation of dropping put in the turbocharged V6 instead of the rival V8 makes the Expedition fast and slightly more efficient than other very large SUVs.

Revisions for 2022 include moderate styling changes along the lines of the latest F-150, including changes to the grille and exterior lighting, along with new wheel options. A new dashboard design was also introduced.

The most significant change, along with the improved material, is the new infotainment system. A 12-inch touchscreen is standard, but the portrait-oriented 15.5-inch version is optional and both use the latest Sync 4 system.

Later in the model year, Ford introduced the Timberline edition. Available only in standard length, the Expedition Timberline has a different grille and exterior trim than the rest, along with 33-inch all-terrain tires and a higher ride height.

Trim levels for 2022 are XLT STX, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum. The Limited can be equipped with a Stealth Package that increases horsepower and uses 22-inch wheels with stiffer suspension. All this is likely to continue until 2024.

All Expeditions are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It produced 380 horsepower, 400 on the Limited model, and 440 horsepower on the Timberline, and when the Limited was equipped with the Stealth Package. In addition to the Timberline, rear-wheel drive is the standard and all-wheel drive is available.

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has completed crash tests on Expedition 2022, but NHTSA gave the rear-wheel drive model four stars in side impact tests and three stars in rollover tests. A maximum of five stars.

For 2022, Ford added advanced driver assistance technology BlueCruise to the Platinum model, which can perform steering and braking assistance at road speeds.

Ford Expedition 2024 Drive

We were impressed with the muscles of the V6 engine. An SUV of this size is impossible so fast, right? We tested the Expedition Platinum with a 4WD and accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. It was almost a second faster than the comparable Chevy Tahoe. Expeditions are responsive and easy to drive when you’re not immersing the accelerator into the ground either.

The brake pedal is a little slippery when you first press it, but in the end, it’s pretty easy to stop smoothly, which is an important part. The steering wheel had a light effort and helped make this Expedition feel a little less bulky.

While you probably won’t drive your Expedition with such urgency as the Secret Service, there are some pretty awesome qualities here for such a big SUV. It’s not a Mercedes GLS, but it doesn’t feel clunky.

2024 Ford Expedition Interior

The expedition’s front seats are comfortable and soft. They have several lumbar support zones and even have a massage function in higher trims. The second row of seats is also quite luxurious. The third row of seating is sturdy but still adequate for adult use. The quality of the Expedition’s vehicles is also quite smooth.

We were less than impressed with the Expedition’s climate control. The airflow from the vents is noisy and not very strong. Seat heating may also be disappointing if you really want to get hot. On the bright side, the Expedition was very quiet on the highway and around the city.

The expedition made full use of its interior space. It is roomier than the Chevy Tahoe and gives each passenger plenty of space and comfort. The accessibility of the third row is impressive, even adults can enter and exit without more effort than it takes to sit in the second row.

The center console is a bit heavy on the buttons. It’s not immediately easy to use, but it doesn’t take too much time to master. It’s a simpler layout than Tahoe as well.

The large windshield pillars hamper visibility from the front. But even though the rear window looks a mile away, the clear backup camera and the available 360-degree camera system take advantage of the backup.

Ford Sync’s infotainment system has come a long way over the years, and the latest iterations are quite user-friendly. The navigation system does look a bit outdated but it offers pinch-to-zoom functionality, helping to make it quick and easy to use. Our 12-speaker Bang &Olufsen audio system test vehicle makes good use of the Expedition’s large cabin, providing power and clarity.

Voice control is basic and can help with simple functions. The android auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration systems became standard with wireless connectivity. Expedition’s advanced driver-aids, such as adaptive cruise control, work well but aren’t as full-featured as those in some rival SUVs.

The expedition has a registered cargo capacity of 20.9 cubic feet behind the third row, 57.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 104.6 cubes max. That’s less space than its direct rival, Chevy Tahoe. But Expedition’s extra space for all your trinkets, plus its flexible seating arrangements, is more than compensation.

The expedition is also a good vehicle for transporting small children. It has an easily accessible anchor for the safety seat plus plenty of space to fit the rear-facing seat. The towing capacity is excellent with a maximum capacity of 9,300 pounds when properly equipped.

Ford Expedition 2024 MPG

The expedition earned an EPA estimate of 19 mpg in a combination of city/road driving. That’s similar to what the EPA posted for other big SUVs. But we’re having a hard time matching EPA numbers in our real-world testing.

Another thing to consider is that premium fuel is required to get the power number cited. During expeditions, we were able to see the difference in performance between regular and premium fuels.

2024 Ford Expedition Price

Regarding the price for the new 2024 Ford Expedition unit, of course, it will be slightly more expensive than the current one, which starts at $ 56,920.

For the Platinum Expedition Max with a long wheelbase, you can expect to pay around $80,000. If you have more space within your budget, consider Expeditions’ luxury cousin, Lincoln Navigator.

The Ford Expedition’s closest rival is the Chevrolet Tahoe. For the Expedition Max with a long axis distance, it is a Chevrolet Suburban. Full-size Chevy SUVs are priced the same as their Ford counterparts.

The big difference is that the Chevrolet model offers a choice of two V8 or turbo-diesel engines under the hood. In contrast, the only engine option in Ford is the rugged twin-turbo V6 available with several different tunings.

2024 Ford Expedition Release Date

We also predict the 2024 Ford Expedition SUV will arrive at the end of 2023 at the earliest.
