Buyers placed a total of 52,518 new orders in five days, an average of more than 10,000 trucks a day, according to October sales data. This is not a reservation, this is an order placed through a Ford auto dealer on behalf of an actual customer who has decided to purchase the vehicle. Technically, this doesn’t count as a sale by Ford until the item is shipped, but the plant is equipped to make all of these orders.
These early 2023 orders are the fastest ever for Super Duty, Ford spokesman Said Deep said Thursday. Unlike the MachE and F150 Lightning pickups, these buyers will have to order through dealers rather than in person online.
The Super Duty pickup truck has a base price of $43,970 (plus $1,795 for destination fees) which often goes up past $90,000 depending on the amenities the buyer chooses. Options include engine type, wheels, tires, cloth or leather interior, screen display size, and massage chair.
While all F-Series trucks are the backbone of Ford, Super Duty brings in super dollars for the Dearborn automaker. The previous order bank for Super Duty 2022 closed in April. Dealers have been keeping waiting lists for customers since then, says Deep.
Everything seems fine based on the latest sales data, which Ford releases every month.
The jump in early orders was an encouraging follow-up to third-quarter earnings and highlighted the importance of trucks of all sizes. The little Maverick pickup played a key role in the third-quarter sales announced last month.
Ford, like other automakers, has had to shift production of different vehicles based on supply chain management and parts availability and COVID-19 and factory disruptions and supplier challenges. Despite a strong demand for all-electric trucks and SUVs, Ford said it has no plans to go electric with the Super Duty.

Additionally, Ford offers STX, Sport, and Black look packages with varying paint, wheel, and trim combinations to add a special touch. New for 2023 is the XL Off-Road Package for the F-250 and F-350 which adds knobby 33-inch tires, axle ventilation tubes, skid plates, raised air dam, and an electronically locking rear differential.
Finally, the Tremor Off-Road Package features a bespoke suspension setup (with the raised front end), Dana front axle with LSD and vent tubes, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear tires, and selectable ride modes.

Ford introduced the 2023 Super Duty shortly after Chevy debuted the updated Silverado HD. It’s no secret that the two American brands are engaged in a longstanding rivalry over who sells the most trucks. Gone is the base 6.2-liter V8 engine from the outgoing Super Duty. In its place is a more powerful 6.8-liter V8 that pumps out more low-end torque to “make starting on steep grades and joining the highway easier,” Ford said. Meanwhile, the 7.3-liter V8 has a revised air intake to produce what Ford expects to be the most power and torque in its class.
Ford added the Power Stroke 6.7-liter V8 diesel can now last longer between oil changes, but what really caught our attention was the high-output version of the all-new 6.7-liter V8 diesel mill.
Ford claims the hotrod diesel will have the highest horsepower and torque ratings with a new turbocharger, updated exhaust manifold, and bespoke ECU tuning. Four-wheel drive is standard on XLT trim and above, and all engine options receive a standard 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.

Inside, the new Super Duty gets an eight-inch (XL) infotainment screen and a 12-inch screen which is available for higher-trim models. The standard feature list includes a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, four USB ports, Max Recline Ford seats, a 640-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system with eight speakers (an 18-speaker B&O premium audio system is available), and Alexa connectivity.
On the technology side, the 2023 Ford F-250 comes with much more modern features than before. Lower trim levels come with an 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trim levels come with a 12-inch display.
Other available features include a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging pad, 18-speaker Band & Olufsen audio system, built-in 5G capability, navigation, and a head-up display. One of the cooler new technological features of the F-250 is the introduction of Trailer Navigation.
Super Duty owners can enter the dimensions of their trailer into the navigation system and the pickup truck will find a route that avoids potential hazards such as low bridges and sharp turns.
Updated Crane Technology
It’s one thing to have more torque to move mountains, but confident towing is quite another. According to Ford, more than 96 percent of heavy-duty truck owners use their vehicles to tow large loads, so Ford made sure to equip the 2023 Super Duty with good crane-related assist technology.
“Our goal is to give the driver no blind spot, even when towing the longest trailers,” said Andrew Kernahan, Chief Engineer for the 2023 Ford Super Duty. “Hitchhiking and towing has never been easier.”
The latest Ford Super Duty features a 360-degree trailer camera to offer a bird’s-eye view of the trailer to eliminate blind spots when moving or maneuvering. There is also a blind spot information system that can be attached to a five-wheeler or gooseneck trailer.
At the same time, the onboard scale can estimate cargo weight in real-time and indicate remaining capacity via the center touchscreen, in the taillight, or using the FordPass app.
Other notable features include the Tailgate Down Reverse Camera and Sensing System, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist (which automatically backs up the truck and aligns the hitch ball to the trailer receiver), and a new trailer navigation feature that plots the fastest and safest route using trailer dimensions and weight.
2023 Ford F250 Powertrain
The F-250 receives an updated powertrain for 2023. The standard engine is a 6.8-liter V8, though Ford hasn’t shared performance figures for the bike yet. Ford has upgraded the available 7.3-liter V8 engine with a new intake for best-in-class horsepower and torque.
The 6.7 liter V8 turbodiesel engine is available in a new high-output configuration with a dedicated turbocharger and other upgrades for best-in-class figures as well. All engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all trims above the XLT come standard with four-wheel drive.
Updated towing figures have been announced for the 2023 Ford F-250. It can now tow up to 23,000 pounds when properly equipped with a diesel engine. Other powertrains can also do their fair share of hauls on the F-250.

Meanwhile, the new Fleet Start Inhibit function allows Ford Pro customers to schedule timeframes in fleet operations.
The new Ford Super Duty is the first pickup with 5G capability using the AT&T 5G network and 5G modem from Qualcomm Technologies. The system enables Wi-Fi connectivity for up to 10 devices to offer superior connectivity for work and play.
Of course, 5G connectivity means over-the-air updates are standard to optimize the truck with software enhancements over its lifetime.

Ford hasn’t officially said how much the 2023 F-250 will cost. Based on the extent of the full redesign, we expect the new model to be more expensive than the current model ranging from $41,240 to $91,875 with a goal.
