2022 Ford Explorer Review

With three rows of seats and ample cargo space, the Explorer is versatile for shoppers with children and all associated gear. Most drivers will be satisfied with the Explorer’s base engine — a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower — but a hybrid powertrain and a 400-hp twin-turbo V-6 are also available.
While Ford offers plenty of tech features and driver assistance, the overall package isn’t as refined as other mid-range rivals that simply offer more refinement, such as the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
The Explorer lineup now includes the new ST-Line trim, which combines the looks of the high-performance ST trim with a more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain.

2022 Ford Explorer Interior
While the interior design may look uninspiring, the Explorer’s cabin is functional and comfortable—at least for those in the first two rows.
Entering the standard third row is fairly easy thanks to a mechanism that slides the second-row seats at the touch of a button.
However, once back there, older children and adults will find that the seats are too close to the floor to be comfortable. Rivals such as the Chevrolet Traverse and Volkswagen Atlas provide more comfort in the third row.
We managed to fit four carry-on luggage behind Ford’s third row, and we loaded a total of 31 bags with both rear rows folded flat.
8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment is standard and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The system is attractive and responsive but not as intuitive as we would like.
A rotation controller will help with that. To get the optional vertically oriented 10.1-inch screen, you’ll need to upgrade to one of the most expensive trims in the Explorer.
However, each model is available with voice-activated navigation as well as a rear seat entertainment system. Apart from the basic Explorer, a 12-speaker B&O stereo system comes standard.

2022 Ford Explorer Price
We think the mid-level Limited model is the best Explorer for the money.
While hybrids make sense for people who can take advantage of the high EPA-rated city mpg, we found the standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine to be quite powerful and more efficient on the highway.
It can tow a sizable 5300 pounds when equipped with a towing pack. We’ll also be adding all-wheel drive for $120.
Other than that, we think the standard features of the desired Limited trim will suffice.
These include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, 20-inch alloy wheels, a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel, leather seats, a foldable third row, and upgraded driver assistance such as adaptive cruise control.

2022 Ford Explorer has long offered the ST-Line trim level in Europe, but the United States only received this version for the first time on the Edge model, last year.
Now, for the 2022 model year, the larger Explorer also gets various ST-like visual enhancements, but without the extra power of the full ST.
The Ford Explorer ST-Line is powered by the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, with 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts) channeled through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Ford says the exterior of the Explorer ST-Line “reflects the complete Explorer ST,” with a black front grille, dual exhaust tips, 20-inch alloy wheels, and dark front and rear lights.
Complementing the changes on the outside, there is a glossy black model name on the hood. Inside the cabin, the new Explorer ST-Line gets a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and a heated steering wheel. While on the tech side, there’s a 360-degree camera and a wireless charging pad.
In addition, Blue Oval also installed automatic dimming mirrors and heated front seats, plus red accents, scuff plates with ST-Line badges, and luxurious floor mats.
The newcomer also has the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ steering and safety system suite, which includes adaptive cruise control (with stop & go) and evasive steer assists, among others.
Positioned between the XLT and Limited trims, the ST-Line slashes the price of the full Explorer ST by around US$7,570 (Rp109 million).
At the same time, it’s also $2,575 cheaper than the Explorer Enthusiast ST, which was introduced earlier this year as a more affordable version.
Confirming the rumors earlier this week, Ford will offer the Explorer ST with a rear-wheel-drive layout as standard. However, the AWD option is also available.
You’ll get the same 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine, with an output of 400 hp and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque, sent to the rear axle via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing details haven’t been revealed yet, but this tail-happy SUV will cost less than its equivalent all-wheel-drive version. In addition to the ST-Line and ST models, the 2022 Ford Explorer gets a 400-hp engine as standard on the King Ranch and Platinum variants.
Both top trim levels now include a Technology Package as standard, featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 14-speaker B&O sound system, and multi-contoured seats.
The 2022 Explorer gets a free choice between second-row or captain seats, as well as fresh Burgundy Velvet and Stone Blue body colors.

Overall, the Explorer is a decent choice, but rivals like Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Mazda CX-9 offer a lot more polish.

The new report from The Truth About Cars has a lot to say about the sixth-generation Ford Explorer. We would like to start by saying that everything you will read about the 2022 Ford Explorer is a rumor from TTAC’s “Blue Oval sources ” and is in no way confirmed by Ford.
We reached out to Ford and asked about the validity of this report and told ourselves that the “brand will not speculate on future product plans. “
With this disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into the juicy rumors. If these rumors are to be believed, the Ford Explorer switches from a front-to-front rear-wheel drive as in the first four generations from 1991 to 2010 model years.
All-wheel drive will still be available, but there are expected to be no more explorers with sideways engines for the 2022 model year from 2019.
The new Explorer will be built at the Chicago assembly plant on Ford’s upcoming modular CD6 platform, which can accommodate front, back, or all-wheel drive.
The report in TTAC says a lot about an unnamed “Lincoln counterpart” that complements the new Explorer. With Lincoln’s new penchant for real names rather than alphanumeric leaps, the name Lincoln Aviator perhaps returns as the luxury of the new Explorer, just as it was in the 2000s.
You might wonder why on earth Ford would change things with the Explorer considering it just had its best sales year since 2004, 271,131 units in 2017.
One possible reason is the police directorate. The Ford Police Interceptor Utility has become America’s favorite police vehicle with 12 percent of all researchers sold in 2017 going to police departments.

The Hear-Rad drive is traditionally the standard for police officers and an RWD Explorer could free the police market share the Dodge Charger holds with a bite.
Another possible reason for the rear-wheel-drive is the likelihood that Explorer buyers living in snowy climates, where RWD isn’t ideal, are likely to often opt for an all-wheel-drive anyway.
There was a five-year dispute between 1998 and 2002, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drives selling more than 400,000 units a year, so the Explorer’s front-wheel-drive variant is unlikely to be missed too badly.
But we’re just starting to start with the rumors. We haven’t even talked about engines. Rumour has it that the new Explorer has four engine options: The 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbo VV found in the current model, the 3.3-liter Cyclon V-6, currently available as an F-150 entry-level engine,
A hybrid option, and a powerful 3.0-liter Liter-twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6, which currently makes 400bhp power and 400-foot-foot torque at Lincoln Continental and MKZ. You know where that’s going.
2022 Ford Explorer ST
The EcoBoost V-6 will reportedly power a Ford Explorer ST. That may have sounded like a stretch a few weeks ago, but the Ford Edge ST just debuted at the Detroit Auto Show and told us performance SUVs are now a thing at Ford.
Sure, we already have a 365 horsepower Explorer Sport, but an ST version is likely to replace it with more performance tuning and a clearer appearance package, as the Edge ST did with the Edge Sport.
As for the Lincoln sibling, it will reportedly only be available with the EcoBoost V-6 and a plug-in hybrid variant of the same engine, which is designed to achieve better electric range than the current Ford remodels.
We have to ask ourselves if the new hybrid Lincoln has a performance advantage over the standard.
Again, we can’t stress enough that everything you’re reading about the Next-gen Explorer and its Lincoln counterpart right now is rumors and not an official news from Ford.
But everything sounds pretty realistic to us. A hybrid explorer look settles with Ford’s plans to bring more power to its lineup, and an Explorer ST makes perfect sense now that we have an Edge ST.
In terms of rear-wheel drive, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Ford introduced a new front-wheel-drive to replace the current Explorer, as SUVs in the U.S. smash sedans and hatchets in sales.

2022 Ford Explorer XLT
The new XLT Sports Look Pack, available with XLT trim, adds exterior stylists such as 20-inch Carbonized Gray painted wheels with matching gray bars and mesh grid inserts, along with an extra body covering dual exhaust tips, and other badges.
Interior additions include diamond dashboard applies, contrast-stitched slate chairs on all lines, and special door panel inserts.
Other changes to the 2021 lineup are smaller. XLT trim gets standard heated front seats. Some of the exterior changes that affect all trims include more wheel designs, layers, and sizes (from 18 to 21 inches),
And several new exterior paint colors: Atlas Blue, Iconic Silver, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Rich Copper Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Silver Spruce, and Star White Metallic Tri-Coat.
2022 Explorer Off-Road
The Ford Explorer is an excellent vehicle that has many of the positive attributes the buyer offers. However, one thing potential customers don’t have the option of buying, at least for now, is the off-road Explorer variant.
This seems like a big mistake, given the overwhelming popularity of off-road-focused vehicles and the current trim levels. But if this spy photo is any indication of what’s to come, Ford may only be working on the off-road Explorer, maybe even the FX4 trim levels for the SUV.
This prototype uses both camouflaged front and rear fascia, but there are some characteristics here that are highly visible.
That includes a set of aggressive Bridgestone Dueler A / T Revo 3 tires, which appear to be clad with a set of 18-inch wheels. As serious off-roaders already know, the marriage of smaller wheels and thicker tires is the ideal combination.
While it is difficult to say for sure, it appears that the front fascia has received some renewed and more aggressive styling.
At the rear, the rear bumper appears to provide a better angle of departure, while the overall height of the off-road Explorer prototype looks taller than the regular model. Topping off is a set of black plastic fender flares and underbody moldings to offer protection for the bodywork on the trail.
It makes perfect sense for Ford to offer, at least, its FX4 package for the Explorer. After all, it has sold the Ford Expedition, Ford Ranger, Ford F-150, and Ford Super Duty with that option.
With the continuing boom in the off-road vehicle market and the overwhelming excitement surrounding the new Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport, it would seem ridiculous if the automaker didn’t start cooking up similar packages and/or slashing levels for more of its products. an existing product.

2021 Ford Explorer Price and Release Date. The car will probably be released and will be available in the second half of 2020.

We think the mid-level Limited model is the best Explorer for the money. It’s also the only one available with a hybrid powertrain.
